Is it the price, the book cover design or something else that keeps you from buying a particular book?

I agree about the money! And even when I do have money, I'm finding myself torn between buying 1 or 2 print copies or going for eBooks so that I can get more reading material for the same price.
mostly it's the several hundred books already waiting to be read that keep me from buying another. if a book has been over-hyped then Ireally don't want to rush in. I'm content to wait for the paperback if I ever chose to read it.
I agree, the price is the biggie. I would have to say after that it is the cover. I don't like a lot of blood or torture. I have been known to purchase the same (used) book a second time. lol Mainly because I have fallen in love with the cover, not realizing I had read it.

What keeps me from buying a book? When I go to a bookstore (hard to find these days) or go online to find a book, I have a series of tests the book must pass. The cover and the title have to appeal to me; if they don't, I'm on to the next book. If they do, I read the brief synopsis and, if it sounds interesting, I read the author's bio and a few paragraphs of the first page, when available. When all that passes the test, I buy the book.

I must agree, in our current economy, price does play a part in decisions for all my purchases. That being said, if the book is one I need to complete a collection, or one I will read over and over, then yes, I will buy it. Sometimes depending on the author, I will purchase a hard copy to treasure and then either a paper or ebook for the actual read. Although this is rare and I stress it's only for a few, it is a great joy for me.
