A Signed Print copy of Zombie-Killer Bill by E.M. MacCallum! Ends Feb. 5th
Zombie-Killer Bill is a gunslinger hired to kill the Illegal zombies of the wild west.
The Illegals – raging, flesh-eating monsters – spread the infection more than their zombie counterparts – the docile Slave or coherent Legals. Bill’s new job however, is bigger than just a routine zombie slaying. Dozens of Legal and Slave zombies have been brutally murdered on the Hansen Zombie Farm, leaving only the suspicion that a single crazed man was behind it all.
To solve the murders Bill teams up with an unlikely partner and hits the dusty trail. Together they risk life and limb to catch the mad-scientist before he changes the west as they know it.
Giveaway is for 10 PDF copies of The Viper Contract by Chris Broyhill! Giveaway ends on February 3rd, 2012.
Several years after a bitter retirement from the Air Force, former fighter pilot Colin Pearce has found a second career: flying Gulfstream and Falcon business jets as a daily contractor. Between the constant travel and his extensive Single-Malt Scotch collection, he manages to keep the demons of has past where they belong. It’s a lucrative, solitary existence and that’s the way he likes it.
But then he takes a phone call while making a connection in the Atlanta airport and his life changes forever.
The call leads Pearce to a dark corner of a nearby hotel bar, where he finds himself across a table from two CIA operations officers – one of whom looks oddly familiar. Over the last year, they’ve been following the activities of a mercenary F-16 unit which has been conducting bombing raids all over the world. Now, thanks to an informant on the inside, they have solid intelligence on an upcoming strike that could have devastating global consequences. But their informant has gone silent and they need Pearce’s help.
Pearce flatly refuses and tells them, “…where all this service to country shit is concerned, my ‘give-a-damn’ has been flat out busted.”
Then, they tell Pearce the one thing he wasn’t prepared to hear. Their informant was Burt Magnusson, Pearce’s Air Force Academy roommate and close friend. Before he went missing, Magnusson added Pearce’s name to the unit’s “talent pool” of possible replacements. Now the unit needs a new pilot and the CIA needs someone to stop them. Colin Pearce, a former F-16 instructor with no family ties, seems to be the perfect candidate.
But that’s not the only reason the CIA wants him. They also know enough about Pearce’s dark side to be confident he’ll do what must be done.
Reluctantly, Pearce goes in and immediately finds himself in a desperate race against time as he frantically tries to thwart the unit’s destructive intentions as the day of the fateful strike rapidly approaches. In the midst of this struggle, Pearce must cope with the competing romantic attentions of the unit’s seductive commander and its voluptuous flight doctor, while simultaneously trying to evade an anonymous assassin who seems intent that Pearce doesn’t leave the island alive.
Pearce has lived his life by a single creed: “I’d rather be lucky than good.” With lottery-like odds against his survival, he’s going to have to be very lucky indeed.
Giveaway is for a Print copy of Heroes and Hounds by Bill Miller! Ends Feb. 10th
Heroes and Hounds is a wonderfully charming story about a young girl’s adventures with her pony and her friend as she seeks to fulfill her dream of riding “to the hounds” with the hunt. Although the story is written for young audiences, it has multi-generational appeal as it touches on such issues as the plight of families with parents in military service and the welfare of veterans. Anyone who loves horses, dogs and other animals will enjoy this book. The illustrations are beautiful and create nostalgia of their own in their old-style look reminiscent of children’s books decades ago.
Carly is 11 years old and lives with her grandfather on a 200-acre Virginia farm while both parents serve in the military overseas. She loves the farm, and befriends all of the animals including a sneaky red fox that stalks her grandfather’s prize chickens. Her best friend is her pony, Monroe, who shares her enthusiasm for adventure. Carly’s constant dream is to ride with the Riverdale Hunt Club that passes through her grandfather’s property. On one particularly rainy Saturday, Carly watches from her front porch as the finely dressed ladies and gentlemen ride to the hounds. Later in the day, Carly finds out that a young hound named Hampton has become lost and Carly is determined to find him and by so doing endear herself to the hunt’s Master; perhaps to be asked to ride Monroe in an upcoming meet. Carly enlists the help of her friend, Freddie, but the adventure is just beginning. Carly, Monroe, Hampton and the red fox have no idea what’s dangers await them.
