Is it true that I need to take creative writing classes before I will be able to write a book?

Nancy,
It isn't true but sometimes advised. For some it really helps but to be honest, when I tried taking a class, it really messed with my writing. I find that writing and more writing and reading and more reading, makes me a better writer. Follow your own heart on that. Sometimes listening to others messes up things.

A year ago I would not have said this, but I think the single most important thing you can do as a writer is to start tweeting and blogging. You cannot start this soon enough. The more you are on-line sharing stories and encouraging others the sooner you’ll have a fan base. If you can nurture your audience for a year or so while you craft you book, then you’ll have an audience waiting to read it.

I was told by a good source (although I’m trying to corroborate this in print) that there will be one million books published in the US alone in 2011. The only way to be noticed in this ever-growing ocean is to court your readers and fans.

I had always thought you needed to have a body of work to grow a following but I’m seeing many successful epub authors who have one or no books at all who have Twitter subscribers greater than 1,000 and their listings are high.

As the tired saying goes: “The squeaky wheel gets the oil.”

Thank you Bobbie for your incouraging words. I will let you know when the ebook and kindle will be out. And when i will post the short animation clip on youtube after my husband has put a new background music on. So i won't get in trouble.
